THEY FELL ON THEIR FACES

“And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid ”

Matthew 17:6

There's a deep desire in God's heart to be intimately known by His sons and daughters. He longs for His glory to saturate every aspect of our being. He invites us to come into the secret places of His presence where the revelation of His Son, Jesus Christ, becomes radiant.

In Matthew 17:1-9 Jesus took Peter, James, and John up into a high mountain to be alone with Him. He then peeled back the natural covering of His flesh to unveil the majestic, supernatural deity of His being. Jesus was transfigured before them and His face shined like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light! All of a sudden Moses, who represents the law, and Elijah, who represents the prophets, appeared and talked with Jesus!

Never before did Peter, James, and John ever experience the supernatural revelation of Jesus like this! Their first reaction was to worship with the familiar Old Testament form of tabernacle construction to honor the presence of God. However, God the Father spoke out of His glory cloud declaring that Jesus was His beloved Son whom He was well pleased with, and commanded the disciples to "Hear Him!" When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.

There is a level of worship that contains much human effort. Its heart seeks to honor God, but is often filled with the works of man very much like the constructing of tabernacles. There is another less common level of worship where the revelation and glory of God become so intense disciples can do nothing but fall on their faces! This level of worship may confuse those who have never separated themselves on a high mountain to be alone with Jesus, but it makes perfect sense to those who have seen Jesus' face shine like the sun.

Today, allow Jesus to bring you into a deeper understanding of His identity and His power. Allow God the time to speak to your heart and reveal Himself in greater ways! The greater your revelation of Jesus, the greater your worship will be. You may soon find yourself on your face in awe of the power and majesty of Jesus Christ. You will realize all flesh-filled worship is nowhere to be found, and experience God's abounding joy with your worship filled with spirit and truth.
